Managing Client Expectations

in the age of AI

Managing client expectations involves more than agreeing a deadline. It means understanding what matters to the client, explaining what can realistically be achieved and agreeing how and when you will communicate. This course helps participants recognise the challenges that can arise, adapt their approach to different clients and build a positive working relationship.

Participants will look at early conversations about priorities and communication preferences, as well as responding when circumstances change. They will also explore how AI can help organise agreed actions or prepare an update, while ensuring that anything shared with the client accurately reflects the position. The aim is to provide a reliable service and recognise opportunities to exceed expectations.

Course objectives:

  • Understand what managing expectations is, and what it is not.
  • Identify common challenges and examine how your own approach affects the client experience.
  • Explore the client’s needs and priorities, including where they may differ from your initial view.
  • Agree realistic outcomes and a communication method and frequency that work for both parties.
  • Use AI where appropriate to organise agreed actions or help structure an update, checking all facts, timescales and commitments before sharing it.
  • Respond constructively when circumstances change and identify ways to exceed expectations as a trusted adviser.
