The Essential Skills Course (ESC) is a flexible development programme designed to support early-career legal professionals as they grow in confidence, capability and commercial awareness.

The Essential Skills Course is structured to reflect the evolving journey of a junior legal professional.
Year one focuses on helping participants build strong foundations, developing the professional behaviours, communication skills and personal effectiveness they need to thrive in the workplace.
Year two shifts the focus towards becoming client-ready and commercially aware, supporting participants as they grow in confidence, take on greater responsibility, and contribute more strategically to the success of the firm.

- Understand what is meant by ‘law firm culture’ and how it influences behaviour and performance
- Recognise the key cultural values and unwritten rules commonly found in legal environments
