Coaching Skills for Partners

in an AI-enabled Law Firm

When partners are under pressure to meet targets, coaching is often one of the first activities to be dropped. Yet regular coaching helps colleagues develop their skills, confidence and independence, and contributes to a stronger team.

This course helps partners recognise opportunities to coach within everyday work, understand their role in the process and create a positive environment for a coaching conversation. Participants will practise a structured approach using the GROW model, listening and effective questions. They will also consider how to coach a colleague whose work has involved AI: exploring their thinking, what they have learned and where they may need further development, without simply reviewing the finished output.

Course objectives:

  • Define coaching and explain its role in developing a successful team.
  • Understand the partner’s role and recognise opportunities to coach during everyday work.
  • Identify what creates a positive environment for coaching and choose an appropriate style.
  • Follow a clear coaching process using the GROW model.
  • Practise listening and questioning techniques that help colleagues develop their own thinking.
  • Apply those coaching skills to AI-assisted work by exploring the colleague’s reasoning, understanding and learning.
